Is Bezos About to Disrupt the EV Game Again?
It’s exciting to see Jeff Bezos backing another startup—this time with Slate EV, which is launching a two-seater truck priced at just $25,000. The big question now is: what does this mean for the Rivian-Amazon partnership? Could Bezos be positioning himself to shake up the EV infrastructure on U.S. roads?
Back in 2020, I did a project on electric vehicle manufacturers, and it was clear that getting even 10% of cars on the road in any state to go electric requires serious effort. First, there’s the need for a stronger network of charging stations. Second, battery technology must continue improving, especially for long-distance travel. Third, legislation must help make EV models more affordable and accessible for everyday drivers. And lastly, it’s worth noting that many first-time drivers in China are already going electric with BYD models.
For starters, new drivers in the U.S. should consider taking their driving tests in EVs—and ideally, their first car should be electric, thanks to incentives aimed at encouraging EV adoption. In California, a new law mandates that by 2030, no new gas-powered cars will be sold at dealerships.
The electric vehicle industry is massive—and if you’re ready to play the long game, now might be the time to place your bets.
